Split steel bushings or bearings are utilized to reduce friction on the shaft and utilize a thin cross section. The split in the material allows for ease of installation of the bushing. Split steel bushings are available pre-lubricated or self lubricated. They often take the place of larger, more expensive machined bronze or powdered metal bushings that often require relubrication and oil grooving. Split steel bushings are harder than their bronze counter parts and therefore may last longer in certain applications.
