Adhesives
An adhesive is a substance that adheres or bonds two items together. Adhesives are manufactured from either natural or synthetic sources. Modern adhesives are extremely strong, and are becoming increasingly important in modern industry. In simple terms, an adhesive is glue. There are several types of adhesives, including: acrylic, cyanoacrylate, epoxy, urethane and hot melt.
Acrylic adhesives are a pressure sensitive adhesive based on high-strength, acrylic polymers. They can be coated as a solvent or emulsion system. These adhesives usually have high temperature resistance, high-grade UV resistance and great permanent bond strength.
Cyanocrylate adhesives are a fast acting low shear strength “glue” used to bond non-porous materials or those that contain minute traces of water. Epoxy Adhesives are
fast-curing epoxies noted for environmental and chemical resistance. Epoxy adhesives are used on metals, ceramics, phenolics, and wood.
Urethane Adhesives provide bonds with minimal surface preparation and are used on thermosets and thermoplastics.
Holt Melt adhesives are a form of adhesive that is supplied in a stick form. The adhesive is normally dispersed by a hot glue gun. The adhesive is hot when it comes out of the gun but harden rapidly.
