Actuators
An actuator is a mechanical device for moving or controlling a mechanism or system. An actuator converts energy into motion or applies a force. An actuator typically is a mechanical device that takes energy, usually created by air, electricity, or liquid, and converts that into some kind of motion. Actuators are found in numerous manufacturing and industrial applications.
The three most common types of actuators are air, electric and hydraulic. Actuators create linear motion, rotary motion or oscillatory motion. Linear motion is in one direction, rotary motion is circular in direction, and oscillatory is in opposite directions at regular intervals.
